Why are Silver Bearings Better?

Bearings are integral to the operation of many engines. Engines require a better bearing than is utilized for many other applications, due to their need to run continuously for long time periods, at elevated temperatures. Steel ball bearings with silver electroplating fill the need for engine bearings. These silver bearings are used in high-performance engines, such as those used in jets.

The silver layer covering steel bearings functions to reduce friction between the bearing and its housing. This simple use of silver increases engine performance and life. Additional safety is imparted to engine components as temperatures within them increase with continuous operation.

The failure of lubricating devices may be neutralized as the smooth silver surface allows enough engine function to remain, until the engine can be safely shut down. Expensive damage can be prevented to high-priced engines with the use of silver plating in bearing components. High speed transportation and manufacturing would not be possible without silver.
