Product Details

Golden State Mint is excited to offer the 2016 American Silver Eagle, which celebrates this iconic coin’s 30th anniversary. First released on November 24, 1986, the American Silver Eagle is a legal U.S tender coin that is produced by the United States Mint. This patriotic coin, featuring well-loved, and recognizable designs, has been made with one troy ounce of pure .999 fine silver, and carries a face value of one U.S. Dollar. The American Silver Eagle measures 1.598" (40.6mm) in diameter with a thickness of .117" (2.98mm).

Looking at the obverse (front) of the coin, you will find a stunning rendition of Lady Liberty. The design, originally used for the U.S. "Walking Liberty" half dollar, was sculpted by Adolph Alexander Weinman, a German immigrant. As the sun rises on the left side of the coin, Lady Liberty stands proudly draped in the American flag. With one arm outstretched, she cradles branches of oak and laurel, symbols of civil and military glory. Behind her, the word “liberty” frames the top of the coin, while the phrase “In God We Trust” is on the bottom right, and the year it was minted is shown underneath her.

The reverse (back) of the coin features a beautiful American bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States of America, from which the coin garners its name. John M. Mercanti, a United States Mint sculptor-engraver, is responsible for the design, which was crafted especially for this coin. Above the eagle’s head there are 13 stars, which represent the 13 original American colonies. The eagle’s beak holds a waving banner reading “E Pluribus Unum”, while in his left talon he clutches an olive branch, and his right talons clutch a bunch of arrows. Inscribed along the top is “The United States of America”, while along the bottom you will find “1 oz. Fine Silver”, and “One Dollar”.

The Silver Eagle is an IRA eligible coin that captivates with a beautiful and iconic design, and continues to be a wonderful addition to any collection or investment portfolio. The coin carries a legal face value of $1 USD, but that does not reflect the intrinsic value of the coin, which is based on silver content, and the silver market. Order yours today, and be proud to own this ever-popular coin.
